Top 10 Cocktails to Start 2017 Off Right

Most people ring in the new year at midnight with the clink of cocktail glasses and a kiss. It's the perfect time for trying new things, saying good-bye to old habits, and creating the "new you." It's a time for refreshment. And the best time for finding your new favorite cocktail!

We just released The Canon Cocktail Book and are obsessed with the unique flavors, colors, and smells of Canon's exquisite drinks. Here's our top ten favorites from the book. Try a few of these to start your 2017 off right by refreshing yourself with a fun new cocktail.

1. Pimm’s Tea

Refreshing and cooling, this is essentially adult iced tea. The liquor is Pimm’s No. 1, a gin-based spirit from England.

2.) Aude Man Thyme

A low-alcohol option for those looking for relaxing times this spring. All you need is peach puree, chardonnay, gin, and a few sprigs of fresh thyme.

3.) Washington Mule

This is the perfect drink: simple, easy to make, and great through all seasons. It works on every level, with the lime pairing exceptionally well with the apple and ginger, and with the bitters doing the same. It's how cocktail flavors hold hands!

4.) El Diablo

A classic. This tequila drink has a spicy ginger beer and not too much sugar, and it's served in a tall glass. The creme de cassis is a sweet, dark red liqueur made from black currants.

5.) Rose Water Rickey

With the emergence of warm spring air, fragrant blossoms and singing birds, it is time to put away that bottle of whiskey. Named after Colonel Joe Rickey's signature drink of his 1883 campaign, this cool libation will refresh even the most parched campaigner.

6.) Bohemian French 75

Another example of how easy it is to take a simple classic and, with a very few adjustments, turn it into a similarly beautiful beast. Gin, Elderflower liqueur, lemon juice simple syrup, sparkling wine, and absinthe.

7.) The Paloma

This simple summer sipper is perfect for lounging by the pool on a hot day. A light mix of tequila, lime juice, and grapefruit soda. You can't go wrong with this to kick off your long summer days.

8.) Chamomile Sour

This is a riff on a simple Whiskey Sour, but sometimes the simplest drink don't need a lot of coaxing to become unique.

9.) The Champs-Elysées

While a riff on the Sidecar, another drink that may have roots in Paris, the Champs-Elysées Cocktail is infinitely more complex, thanks to the inclusion of Chartreuse.

10.) The Rha Rha (Sis Boom Bah)

The Rha Rha signals the beginning of Spring! This is a very simple, light refreshment that contains a ton of flavor but delivers it delicately and with the chic fashion sense that a beverage containing Champagne should. Here's the recipe:

1.5 ounces white rum

3/4 ounce rhubarb shrub

2 ounces dry Champagne

Lemon twist, for garnish

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add the white rum and rhubarb shrub. Stir and strain into a chilled coupe glass. Top with the Champagne and garnish with a lemon twist.
